Who Is Dara? The Bulgarian Singer Who Conquered Europe

Varna Bulgaria Black Sea coast — birthplace of Dara

On May 16, 2026, the name Dara became known across the entire world. But in Bulgaria, she has been a star for years. Here's the story of the woman who just made history.

From Varna to the World Stage

Varna Bulgaria Black Sea coast

Darina Nikolaeva Yotova was born on September 9, 1998, in Varna — Bulgaria's jewel on the Black Sea coast. From an early age, music wasn't just a passion. It was a direction.

In 2015, aged just 16, she entered The X Factor Bulgaria and finished third — impressing judges and audiences alike with a voice far beyond her years. That performance was enough. Bulgarian music label Virginia Records signed her immediately, and the stage name Dara was born.

Building a Career, One Hit at a Time

Dara's debut single "K'vo ne chu" (2016) announced her arrival. What followed was a decade of consistent hits, sold-out concerts, and chart domination. Songs like "Thunder", "Call Me", and "Mr. Rover" topped the Bulgarian airplay charts for weeks at a time.

"Mr. Rover" even caught international attention when Kai — member of global K-Pop phenomenon EXO — covered the track on his 2023 solo album. In total, Dara's songs and videos have accumulated over 80 million streams and views.

More Than a Singer

In 2021, Dara became the youngest-ever coach on The Voice of Bulgaria. She won the 2022 and 2024 seasons as coach. In 2024, she opened for Robbie Williams in Sofia.

ADHDARA — The Album That Changed Everything

In September 2025, Dara released ADHDARA — her most personal project, marking a shift from national pop star to international artist. She became Puma brand ambassador for Southeastern Europe.

Bangaranga — And Then Vienna

When Bulgaria returned to Eurovision in 2026, Dara chose "Bangaranga" — beating two other tracks with top scores from both public and jury. Nobody predicted what happened next.

"It means a lot because we as Bulgarians should have a bigger platform for all of our artists, songwriters, everybody in the creative community." — Dara, Vienna 2026.

At No Sense, we believe in people who think differently, act boldly, and make no apologies for who they are. Dara is exactly that. #Bangaranga #NoSense
